We are all in a relationship with God. This relationship exists because He created us. Unfortunately, the quality of that relationship is tainted by sin. Christ in His love, and expressing the love of the Father and the Holy Spirit left us with the means to strengthen our relationship with Him through the sacraments. The Catechism describes the seven sacraments as touching all the stages and all the important moments of Christian life. As Catholics we believe that all sacraments are powerful moments where we enter into the mystery of the Trinity and that provide us grace to grow in our relationships with God. Therefore all sacraments should be sought and received not because we grasp their reality but because we desire to be in the very real relationship with God that they represent. Availing ourselves of these sacraments is an expression of being in relationship with God and in turn, provides us with the strength to continue our commitment to this relationship.
