Greetings! Did you know that “to sing” is one of the most commonly used phrases in the Bible? It is a fact worth knowing for all the faithful of the parish when it comes to celebrating any Liturgy, particularly the Mass. References from The Spirit of the Liturgy indicate that the first evidence of God’s people singing dates back to the time that immediately follows the crossing of the Red Sea!
Like so many thousands of years ago, today we continue the legacy that when “people come into contact with God, mere speech is not enough.” It is St. Augustine who tells us that “singing is like praying twice.” Sung Liturgy elevates our prayer of the Mass to join all of our voices on earth with the saints and angels in heaven. Now that is a powerful means of offering praise and thanksgiving to God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit!
Won’t you join me in the continuation of our singing heritage that takes us all the way to heaven? Check out our Music Ministry programs, with the knowledge that the assembly is the primary singer! Let the fire of the Holy Spirit set you ablaze, and your love for the Lord be your guide now and forever.
